The general “conspiracy mindset” we are living in nowadays, is actually the ageless symptom of the belief that we are not really the masters of our own lives. In our collective mind, what used to be conceived as God’s overwhealming, omnipotent power has been analogously  replaced by the mischievous demi-gods of our era: corrupt government heads, Machiavellian corporation  boards of directors grinding their teeth thinking of how to squeeze out of us the last profit drop, brilliant and villainous Masonic organisations pulling the strings behind our  brains through the media…

 

We have the feeling we are being fed on Candy while important matters escape our knowledge, as if we were a crowd which is being kept happy with bread and gladiator shows.

We live in constant dissatisfaction with our lives, unable to dissipate the sensation of impotence, and all this happens despite the advancements made by democracy and science.

 

An idea deeply buried in our modern minds. The donkey, carrot and stick, in an ouroboros circuit.

 

Democratic pleasures is a visual representation of this belief, rendered through the optical an psychological conflict ellicited by contrasting materials, shapes, colors and symbols. These sculptures, which engender distressing thought associations, depict the ugliness and the beauty of our social constructs and the ambiguous relationships we have with them.

 

The use of construction materials is ment to defray people from participanting , while the use of sugar and caramel welcomes people to participate and take part of the pieces. The use of sugar as a way of cultural cannibalism, makes these pieces evolve during their exposure to people.
